What you should know about being on the Assembly of Student Delegates (ASD) Steering Committee
The Assembly of Student Delegates represents and communicates the interests of students to AOTA leadership and governance bodies. The ASD provides a forum for the development of student leadership and advocacy to enhance the occupational therapy profession and promote student membership.
As a standing committee of the Board of Directors, the ASD Steering Committee (ASDSC) serves the ASD membership by synthesizing student concerns to represent the student point of view to the RA, the COP, the COE, the VLDC, and all other bodies of AOTA as needed.
ASDSC members are elected. Nominations open for available positions early each fall, and successfully elected members assume office on July 1 of the following year.
2024–2025 Tri-Annual information will be updated as it becomes available, as well as advertised in the ASD CommunOT forum and in the ASD Newsletter. Email asd@aota.org with any questions.
Serving on the ASD Steering Committee (ASDSC) provides the opportunity to work with people who are enthusiastic and creative, to meet and collaborate with leaders of the profession, and to gain insight into professional matters. This experience will be of benefit as you transition into professional practice and prepare for meaningful experiences in both state associations and AOTA.
Student interests and perspectives are viewed as important components in the AOTA decision-making process. Part of ASDSC’s charge is to facilitate communication between AOTA governance and students. The network of student representatives, in which there is one representative for each accredited entry-level program, provides the means for all AOTA student members to have representation in the Association and to voice their ideas and provide input through their individual representatives. ASDSC, by the nature of its representation to other Association bodies, is empowered to speak to the issues for occupational therapy and occupational therapy assistant students.
