2024 AOTA Elections

All nominations must be submitted via AOTA’s online elections platform. Late or incomplete nominations will not be accepted after 11:59 am (just before Noon)  ET on Tuesday October 24, 2023.  Prior to beginning the nomination process, it is suggested that you read the Elections FAQ.

The VLDC supports and encourages diverse candidates and occupational therapy assistants to submit nominations for election.

General Information & Procedures

Nominations for elected offices are made by Association members.  The Volunteer Leadership Development Committee (VLDC) oversees the nomination process as directed by Association Bylaws and further defined in the VLDC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Nominees shall have the qualifications needed to carry out their duties as detailed in the position’s standard operating procedure (SOP) or job description (JD), as well as meet any position qualification requirements or criteria approved by the Board to be used by the VLDC, and published in official publications. 

All qualified candidates must have availability the week of November 13 to 18 or November 20 for a 30-minute Zoom interview with the VLDC interview panel.


Qualifications for All Association Elected Positions:

  • Shall have consistent access to a high-speed internet connection and be comfortable working in a virtual communications environment. This includes opening, saving, editing, and sending attachments in email and other electronic formats as needed.
     
  • Shall be a member in good standing of the Association at time of nomination and throughout the term of office. In addition, some positions require state association membership. Please refer to the SOP or JD to verify.
  • Shall have knowledge of and familiarity with the official documents of the Association (including Bylaws, policies, relevant SOP/JD, AOTA Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics, Administrative SOP, and strategic priorities).

  • Shall not serve in any other position at the same time unless designated in a standard operating procedure/job description or appointed to a smaller group of the body to which elected. 

Required Materials 

The nominee must submit a CV or resumé, cover letter, evidence of state affiliate/association membership (if applicable to the position), and written responses to canididate questions to complete the AOTA General Election nomination process.  Other elected positions (e.g., ALC, AOTPAC, ASAP) may waive some requirements or request additional documentation.  Please follow instructions carefully for the specific position you have selected.  You do not need to finish the nomination in one session, as the online system will save your work.  Please do not hit the "Save and Finalize" button until you have fully completed all necessary sections.

All nomination materials must be submitted by the deadline through the online platform in order to be considered. Candidate Profile

Upon submission of a complete nomination, nominees will receive a confirmation email with a link to complete their candidate profile and position statement, and provide a professional photo. The VLDC will notify all qualified candidates before this informaton posts to AOTA's website. If a candidate is deemed not qualified, the information will not be posted. The deadline to complete the candidate profile and position statement is Friday, November 17. Please click here to see the template example of the requirements for the candidate profile.
